SPEAKER_01

Welcome to Three Cups and a Dash of Spirituality. Since it's that time of year, my co-host and I decided to each bring a story from Reddit, something connected to the season of ghosts, memory, and the spaces between worlds. So get cozy, settle in, and enjoy a fright or two. Cue the music. And today we're going to be reading Go Stories or How the Veil is Thin around Halloween. So, how are y'all? Hi, Michelle. How are you doing? I'm doing well. How are you, Stacy?

SPEAKER_02

I'm good. I'm good. I was so confused for a second because I thought we were jumping in and you were looking down and reading again. So I was into another, are we doing another intro? It was perfect. So I've got my story ready to go. You and I both. Mine's been sitting in front of me since I sat down at the computer.

SPEAKER_00

You guys are ready. I mean, this is the spookiest time of year. And I will say, I would probably say it every year, that October is my absolute favorite time of year for that reason. And I think that goes back to many years ago. You didn't get a lot of these ghost adventures on TV all the time. But in October, they always played. And so at night before I went to bed, that's what I would do. I would watch these shows and scare myself. And now I'm living my dream and scary myself in a different way.

SPEAKER_01

I love it. So funny. I love it. Well, I love reading these Reddit stories because it we just have so many good conversations that come out of it. So I have one that yes is ghosts, but it's heartfelt. Can I start with it? Do it. Okay, this is from you palate dead. This is about the night Randy came home. So this woman, so she lives in Southern California and she talks about how Dia de los Muertos isn't just muertos, the muertos isn't just a holiday. It's a heartbeat. Even if you're not Mexican, it's hard not to be moved by the color, the marigolds, the candle, the sense that love doesn't end. It just changes shape. So this story comes from a woman who grew up in that world surrounded by neighbors who wanted their ancestors every uh October. And she isn't Mexican herself, but her oldest daughter's father is from Guadalajara, and she wanted her child to stay connected to the to those roots. So every year she builds a friend's, and I didn't know how that's how you pronounce it. O-F-R-E-N-D-A-S, Frendas. Little altars filled with photos, candles, offerings for her Irish nanny and her German grandmother. And it's her way of keeping the memory alive, of teaching her daughter that the veil between the worlds is thinner than it seems. I love that. So last year, her husband's father, Randy, died unexpectedly from a rare form of muscular dystrophy, and it just broke her husband. So a little bit about them. They're both professors, both grounded in reason and science. But listen, grief, grief makes even the most rational minds question everything. So when the time came around, she decided to add Randy to the family's altar, and she gathered his photos, his favorite Sioux Line Railroad hat, some summer sausage, and a can of PBR, and she placed it beside her Nana's of Frenda on a bookshelf in the living room. She lit the candles, nothing out of the ordinary. So Halloween night came and went, kids trick-or-treating, chaos in the house, laughter, candy, visualize it all. The candles burned quietly in the background as they always did. But that night after the kids were asleep when her husband had come home drunk and heartbroken, something changed. You know, she felt a shift. She went downstairs to blow out the candles, the house dark and still, and like she did everywhere, every year she stopped to talk to her nana. They had been close when her grandma was alive, and even though she passed 16 years earlier, the conversation still brought her peace. So she sat there, softly speaking to the photo, remembering, laughing a little, feeling that familiar ache of love. She wasn't thinking of Randy at all. Then suddenly a crash. Randy's frame photo shot off the shelf, his hat and beer on the floor, and salami rolling across the room. Nothing dramatic, but you know, a little roll. Everything on his part of the Frenda shattered. But her nana's altar altar was completely untouched. There was no open windows, no pets, no draft, just Randy's things knocked down as if by invisible hands. She froze, then started laughing and crying all at once. Through her tears, she whispered, Okay, Randy, I'll go get your son. She ran upstairs, woke her husband, and told him, You need to talk to your dad. And he did. He stayed up the rest of the night, speaking softly into the dark, telling his father everything he hadn't been able to say. And by morning he felt lighter, as if something had shifted. He told her later that he felt his father's presence with him, listening. And in that quiet, rational, two academics' house who didn't believe in ghost, suddenly weren't so sure. The next day, her husband, usually the skeptic, the cynic, thanked her. He said, Next year we're grilling steak for Randy. And that's the cool thing about Dia de los Muertos. It isn't about fear or superstition. It's about love that refuses to die. I just love the story. It's about believing that sometimes when we light a candle, someone we've lost still finds their way home. I love that.

SPEAKER_00

Isn't it beautiful? On so many levels, I'm just still listening to it in my mind. And the very first thing that came up for me is what a wonderful gift she is to her husband. Because not only did she take the time to set that space for his father, but she was intuitive enough to know what that means. Because in that moment, when those things got knocked over, she could have reacted out of fear and instead she reacted out of intuition. And she knew at that moment that dad needed to talk.

SPEAKER_02

Intuition and love. Like such a beautiful connection. And I think one of the coolest things is when offerings are set up like that, you are inviting in those conversations, those those opportunities to say the things that perhaps you didn't say that you to to help that healing, to kind of help just that forward movement. And it's just so, so, so beautiful.

SPEAKER_01

I think I may do that this year. I mean, I have items out, but I think I may put them on the fireplace mantle.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Just moving them there with intention for just moving them there for with intention.

SPEAKER_02

And what a beautiful cultural practice. I know. I just I I have so much love for and and and if you do any research on Dia de los Muertos, it really is a celebration of life. I mean, it's a the Dia de it's the day of the dead, is is what it actually means, but it's such a celebration of life. And I know the movie Coco of Disney talks a lot about it, but it's it's a way for you know these lost family members to be remembered. And and that's the whole kind of thing behind it. And it's beautiful, it really is beautiful.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. And I think it's important to maybe review some of the different traditions around the world, how people do celebrate the day of the dead or what that means to them, because Halloween's not just a day to get dressed up. I mean, that's fun to do, but there is cultural meaning behind it. So even if it's after Halloween, I do think that we should dive into some of those different traditions around the world. So yeah, I'm putting it in my notes right now.

SPEAKER_01

I'm actually putting it in my calendar right now to create an ofrenda. Am I pronouncing that right?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, and and ofrenda actually means offering. Okay. That's six years of Spanish and under my belt here, like we're talking 20 plus years ago, but but you got it.

SPEAKER_00

You nailed it. Don't ask me what offering is in French. I couldn't tell you, and I took that.

SPEAKER_02

No, it's it's really, I think, a nod to looking at the way different cultures celebrate different holidays. I think it's a really, really, really cool, cool practice just to learn, you know, and step into it just a little bit more to honor. Yeah, I love that.

SPEAKER_00

But while I haven't um set up a specific place in my house to remember my past loved ones on anniversary dates or days when that veil is thin, I have written them notes and put them next to my bedside in hopes of having a dream about them or bringing that energy into being, a conversation of some sort or some sort of acknowledgement that they're here with me.

SPEAKER_02

I love that. I love it. I don't think I've ever thought to do something along those lines, but I will tell you, I mean, I think I've shared this in a previous episode. Every time I sit down at my desk, I actually have a card from my grandmother who passed away. So like right in front of me. So, you know, I I will occasionally sit down and look at her and be like, hey grandma, like like she's here. And it's it's just, you know, always in front of me, which I I think is one of the coolest things that you know, you you can feel those connections. And it's in what's even cooler is I just got full body chills when I said, you know, I I do sit down and talk to my grandma sometimes. She's always right in front of me. So yeah.

SPEAKER_00

So important to do. I mean, so many lessons and such a big part of your life to to remember and to to carry that on. So absolutely. Yeah, well, thank you, Carissa. That was a wonderful story. It was beautiful.

SPEAKER_02

It was pretty sweet. Okay, so Reddit story. This is the one that I found. I found like four different ones, but this one was the one that I actually liked the most. Little bit to unpack here, but the name of the person who wrote this is Infinite Space Goat, which I just thought was amazing. It says, Last year I was dog sitting for my parents while they were on holiday. They live in a very rural countryside village in an old barn conversion, and I hate staying there by myself. So about 10 days into house sitting, I woke at about 4 a.m. and could hear something downstairs. Thinking I had somehow gone to bed and left the TV on, I went down to the lounge, but the TV was off. Very confused at this point. I wandered into the hall looking for the source of the sound. Both dogs were sat very alert outside of the office door. Then I saw a light coming from behind the office door. I have absolutely no explanation for what happened that night. The computer in the office is my brother's, and he was sailing in Europe for two months at this point in time. And his computer was always password protected. However, on this night, the computer was on, unlocked, and the noise I could hear was a YouTube video about Soviet experiments of dog head transplants. I worked from home the next day as I was so scared I'd come home to find my dog's heads had been switched.

SPEAKER_01

What what? That's the end. That's the end. Okay. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. We need to back up here.

SPEAKER_00

What? And I would be thinking the exact same thing, right? Not wanting to leave my house at all.

SPEAKER_02

Right, right. I I read that, and like I said, I read that one and I read like two or three other ones, and I was like, we're going with that one. There's a lot to unpack there. Can you imagine? Number one, waking up in the middle of the night, finding a computer that you don't even have the password for, unlocked, playing creepy video of any sort. Like, what is happening? Okay, and she was in the house by herself. Yes. I well, and we don't know if it's a she or a he, but they yes, okay. They were in the house themselves. It was YouTube.

SPEAKER_01

Did she they and it was about two dogs' heads? It was so weird.

SPEAKER_02

Experiments.

SPEAKER_01

It's like I wanted to know more about your house. And I want to know more. You know, other stuff has happened.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, you know, like without question that other things have happened been happening there. And that's most likely why this person does not like staying there by themselves, right?

SPEAKER_01

Like that would and that they're not consciously aware of. And this one really got their attention. I bet a lot of stuff happens that they're they brush it off.

SPEAKER_02

Right. Yeah. That's that's my my guess, at least, is that you know, there's a lot of activity that's going on, or there's just, you know, something that's kind of messing with them. Yeah, that's gross. That's creepy. Isn't that crazy? That is creepy.

SPEAKER_00

I would not like that. Where did it say her brother was traveling? Maybe he was over in that area and for some reason it was the tie back.

SPEAKER_02

Was in the he was in in Europe. Just he was he had been gone for two months. Oh, that's interesting.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

He was in Europe.

SPEAKER_00

No, I wouldn't have appreciated any of that. I wouldn't have appreciated walking downstairs in a computer that should be shut and off, being on, and something creepy playing.

SPEAKER_01

Absolutely no, no. That's no, because then that's telling me that that spirit in there is not a very nice person. This is not just some punk teenager.

SPEAKER_02

Right. Hard pass on that. I mean hard pass. You know, playing a little bit, you know, devil's advocate. My other thought is, you know, perhaps the YouTube had been used for videos that were historical in in nature. And, you know, whatever unlocked the computer, it just kind of automatically went in that direction. And it wasn't intentional that it was that video that it kind of, you know, like all of our alg algorithms do, but it adds into that kind of creepiness.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. If they can turn on the computer, they can switch a video. Right.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Yeah. I wonder if they saged afterwards. I wonder what they did.

SPEAKER_02

I I wonder how much longer they were there by themselves.

SPEAKER_00

Exactly. Well, we know the next day because they didn't want to leave the dog.

SPEAKER_02

So my goodness. When did somebody else come home after that? Like, how much longer were they house sitting? You know, you just you just kind of how much how much more time do you get to spend in this house? But yeah, I thought that one was a good one, especially being the Halloween episode.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, we went from sweet and sentimental to what the fuck.

SPEAKER_02

We went from sweet and docile to the what the fuck. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

And it is so interesting because right after you told that story, I I you know, I've been looking at you this whole time. We had done episode prior, and on your I see legit.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, yeah, my shirt says it this story quit as I am currently too legit. Legit. Too legit to quit.

SPEAKER_01

The story is legit, and I feel it, and it feels legitimately like someone was is a creeper and in their house.

SPEAKER_00

Terrifying. Terrifying. But that but on top of that, you would have to wonder also with the computer. I know you're it still doesn't do anything with the being password protective if there's somebody else in the house, like a physical person. I mean, you don't know in that moment what you're dealing with. Every light in that freaking house would be on. My dogs would be with me. I would be on the telephone waking up like people who are pissed that I'm calling that late. Like that would not have been a good night. That is unsettling.

SPEAKER_02

That is incredibly unsettling. A lot of people ride it off though. Oh, yeah. Yeah, that's it. You're you're not you're not wrong about that. Like a lot of people do. They just pretend it's things like that aren't happening. And at what point in time do you kind of step into this? Like, even if it is a hundred percent spiritual, are you physically safe? Like, can you be hurt? Is there is there more going on? Or did somebody break in and they're screwing with you? Like, there's there's so gosh.

SPEAKER_01

Now that is even creepier right there. That scares me even more.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. That was a fear for Carissa too, when we were at the Sally house, because the Sally house is dead center in the middle of a college campus. And if they know that people are like going in there to have an experience, kids, they're gonna be kids and they're gonna try and scare you. I would have, I would have Carissa.

SPEAKER_01

No doubt. I was the punk kid, and I would have been all about let's go. I'm not a kid drinking, but you know, a teen in college. I would have been drinking and be like, you know what we're gonna do tonight? We're gonna go screw this with we're gonna go fuck with those idiots in that Sally house. Yeah and I would have had a ball. I would have had a ball.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, I'm I don't doubt that for a second.

SPEAKER_00

Well, we do have one more, and I'm just gonna go for it, and then I'll explain the rest of it later. So do it. Okay. Here's the title of it. Sometimes spirit doesn't wait for midnight. Sometimes the veil thins in the middle of an ordinary day. So here we go. Now I know this sounds unbelievable, but I just don't think I can keep it to myself anymore because this is what happened to me one day, and the memory of it still follows me. I've always felt I've had a connection to a certain killer. The case wasn't ever coincidental to me. It felt personal. I didn't even know about this perpetrator until 2021. But ever since then, strange things have found me. Whispers in my dreams, sudden chills, and that eerie sense that someone's story isn't yet finished. And what's worse, things like this always happen when I'm listening to a podcast about this person. It really doesn't matter if it's a podcast, a TV special, or just a conversation. When the name is said, something stirs awake inside me. So on this particular day, I was walking and I was listening to a podcast on this perpetrator. I had noise canceling airpods in, and the world around me was gone. It was just me and the story. And then I heard a crash, a violent snarl of chains coming from a tall chain-link fence beside me. It was maybe eight or ten feet high, and it shuddered like something massive had slammed into it, hard enough to make it rattle and the ground beneath my shoes vibrate. I froze, and then out of the corner of my eye, a shadow lunged at me, fast, human, and targeted. I spun towards it, and nobody was there. Only that towering fence, trembling in the still air, but the space around me felt charged, heavy, and aware. I really shouldn't have heard anything. My airpods were still in, but the sound was louder than the podcast and the shadow, and it felt very intentional. And for a moment it was like I'd stepped into someone else's memory, a violent one, a lingering one. I don't know if it was a haunting, an imprint, or something that remembers me as much as I remember it. And now, sometimes late at night, I still hear the chains, soft at first, and then coming closer. Now tell me, has history ever reached out to you and have you touched it back?

SPEAKER_01

Uh yeah, you know, I mean, that has happened to me where it's I've seen a shadow not lunge at me though, and immediately twirl to look and nothing's there. I've had that so many times.

SPEAKER_00

Well, this is my story again.

SPEAKER_01

I I presumed it wasn't.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I presumed. And here is why I shared it in this episode because I've wanted to share it recently, but the timing was never right. And when we decided to do Reddit stories here, I tried to log into Reddit several times and I could not get a single story to load. And so I'm like, well, maybe this is the universe just saying this is a good time and good place to share the story because it absolutely happened. And in the moment, even though it was daylight, even though there were people further down the path, it scared me to death because there was nothing there. But then it's confirmation again that every time you hear this person's name, something happens. This happened in 2021? No, this event happened like three months ago. Oh. It was very recent. I only found out about my connection to this particular person. And I don't know why I'm afraid to say it. I guess I'm afraid to say who he is only. Because I don't want to hurt any of the living. But you know, it's a true story. It's happened. It's the Zodiac Killer. There's a weird connection there. And I listened to a lot of information on him, trying to gather where um those coincidences could come together. And there are many. So yeah, it it just really always feels like it's reaching out at me. It doesn't ever completely let go of me.

SPEAKER_01

What comes up for me, it feels like you had a past life with this person. And in yeah, in some in some capacity. Not this life, but an an another life. And we, you know, we've had it, right? We've had many. I mean, especially been on this earth, many, many, many, many, many, many, many. I mean, good lord.

SPEAKER_02

I'm very curious what the connection is. And I'm wondering if at some point in time, like collectively, we could tap in to find out what that connection is.

SPEAKER_00

I'm not sure what it is. And maybe in the future, I know in the past we've kind of talked about it and skirted around everything that happened just because I didn't want to publicly say who it was. Um, but maybe we'll revisit all of it because there are a lot of connections.

SPEAKER_01

I would love to insight how old is this, real quick. How old is this person? Would how old would this person be? I don't know when the killings happen. We don't we don't know because they they those uh they were never found.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, he started what can be contributed to him directly started in 1968. Like there are five confirmed victims, although there are other cases that they kind of are starting to tie back to him possibly. And then he just disappeared after he taunted like newspapers and every in in different ways. The police, the newspapers, like he would call in and say, like, I just murdered somebody, you can find him here. And then he would send ciphers. I mean, it really is a very interesting case.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. So this person would be mid 80s to early 90s, so he's could still be alive, but more than likely he's probably gone.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

So that's my story. And definitely a lot to unpack. And I think that we really should cover that in a future episode. And I I don't want to take away from you because that's such a crazy experience.

SPEAKER_00

No, I I appreciate that. And again, I I did try and find a Reddit story. It logged me out of my account. I was having a hard time getting in, and then I was trying to pull them, and every time I tap on it, it wouldn't open the story. So I'm like, okay, maybe it's time. So yeah, any insight in a future episode would be wonderful. I think that would be a great episode option.

SPEAKER_01

Do you want me to ask my AI to download from the spirit guides to see what they'd say real quick? Of course I do if you have a moment to do that.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I mean, I'm I'm just keeping an eye on the time for you.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Let's see. It starts off you and Michelle are both sensitive, intuitive people. And sometimes when a spirit energy feels disfelled is disturbing, which actually reservic, resurvicing isn't who someone was, but an emotional or karmic resonance. Let's see. Message from the spirit guides. This energy is resurvicing so that compassion can meet what horror once created. It is not yours to carry, but yours to release. Offer light to the lost, not identity to the lost. That's all it gave. That's interesting.

SPEAKER_00

Right? Yeah, take a picture of that and send it to me. I'm gonna work with that a little bit.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, I'm gonna I'm gonna text this to both of y'all so y'all can sit and chew on it. Because that's definitely usually it's pretty clear. Yeah, and that's definitely not that's no, usually it's actually very pretty clear, and this is ambiguous for sure. Very ambiguous.

SPEAKER_02

What a great spot to end our our podcast.

SPEAKER_00

I think so. Yeah, we got costumes to put on because Halloween, as you know, is on the weekend. So dress up and be spooky you or beautiful you or just you. Like however you want to celebrate Halloween. Happy Halloween, everybody.

SPEAKER_02

Happy Halloween. And I'm gonna say, stay classy, stay sassy, and stay badassy.

SPEAKER_00

Ooh. Just kidding. I didn't know what else to say. Until next time. Until next time, bye, everybody. Bye. Thank you for listening to this week's episode of Three Cups and a Dash of Spirituality.
