Hi everyone! Welcome to our podcast, Whispers from the Mist: Conversations from the Spiritual Byway.

In this week’s episode, Michelle is joined by her friend Bonnie D'Angelo.

Listen in as they prepare for an overnight experience at the former home (and occult museum) of legendary paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren.

As their trip approaches, Michelle and Bonnie take a look at the Warren House today — who owns it, what has been happening inside, and where they will be going next.

They revisit some of Ed and Lorraine Warren’s history before turning their attention to the home’s newest chapter. This chapter inclues their current owners - comedian Matt Rife and paranormal investigator and content creator Elton Castee.

They talk about Matt and Elton’s decision to purchase the Warren property, some of the unusual experiences that they've had, and what is happening with the Warren collection today.

It is important to share, that while Matt and Elton own the property, the historic Warren artifact collection remains owned by Ed and Lorraine’s daughter, Judy Spera, and her husband, Tony. Both Matt and Elton are the temporary guardians of those artifacts.

Also... While editing this episode, Michelle discovered several unusual interruptions and audio moments. One of those moments occurred while discussing an internet outage that happened during one of Elton’s live broadcasts. For your listening pleasure — we decided to leave it in.

So, please listen is as they explore the Warren House today, the people carrying its story forward, the strange experiences surrounding it, and what happens next.

If you enjoyed listening to this episode, please leave a 5-star rating and review!

SPEAKER_02

Hey everyone, on this week's episode of Whispers from the Mists, Conversations from the Spiritual Byway, as Bonnie and I get ready to go into the Warren House, we're talking about the home's new ownership, what the new owners appear to be creating for the next chapter of this property, and what we've learned as we've prepared for our overnight stay. We also talk about some of the experiences we've already had leading up to this trip, how they compare to things we've experienced on our previous paranormal travels together, and how we're trying to walk through those doors without expectations. We want to remain open, curious, paying attention, and ready to let the house tell its own story. One quick note before we begin. We recorded this conversation several weeks in advance, and since then, additional information has become available about the Warren Museum and which artifacts will be moving to its new public location. So you'll hear us sharing what we understood at the time, and we'll bring you the updated information as we continue the story. So come along with us today as we get ready to step inside the Warren House and we'll continue this conversation off the spiritual byway. Hello everyone and welcome to another episode of Whispers from the Mist: Conversations from the Spiritual Byway. I am Michelle. I am here with Bonnie D'Angelo, my partner in crime, my ghost hunting partner. How are you today?

SPEAKER_01

I'm well. How are you?

SPEAKER_02

I'm doing really well. It's so funny. As I was doing the intro, my mind immediately went to the Airbnb that we stayed at in Vallisca, Iowa. And there were several bedrooms, and there were only three of us there. So we could each have our own bedroom, but we decided to share one room, all three of us, with all the bunk beds because we're like, we don't want to be alone here. Yeah, I just wanted the moral support close by.

SPEAKER_01

Yes, I felt better, much better.

SPEAKER_02

I did too. That was a wonderful experience. And like I said, in the episode we recorded a while back, we need to revisit the Sally House again and the Veliska X house. But I will share I had to release that because it was reaching out afterwards. And I'm like, I just I can't revisit it yet.

SPEAKER_01

I learned how it was reaching out to you after beats.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. It wasn't my favorite experience.

SPEAKER_01

I mean, Sally House was awesome, but the evidence we got at the Beliska House was outstanding.

SPEAKER_02

Definitely.

SPEAKER_01

Was something I've like never experienced that that was wild. I love it, it was wild.

SPEAKER_02

It was wild. And again, so much happened. And it was really weird because afterwards, or I would just come home and my TV would be like on travel channel, and an episode on the Veliska Axe House would come up. Like I wasn't searching for it. I didn't know it was coming up. And then I would get sucked in and watch the episode and be like, oh, that happened to me. This reaching out afterwards is a thing. It was so weird. Yeah, it was crazy. But even after that crazy experience, but we've been to the Sally House, the Belisca Axe House, we went to Zach Begin's haunted museum and Tonopah, Nevada. Yeah. So we've gone to a couple really great places. But next on our agenda, the next place we're gonna visit is Ed Lorraine Warren's home, which is attached to their museum, their occult museum. How are you feeling about that?

SPEAKER_01

I I've been waiting for this for a long time. Like I am so I'm so ready. This is going to be an amazing experience because there's so much history in that house, and there's so much there's so much energy.

SPEAKER_02

I can feel it.

SPEAKER_01

I can feel it.

SPEAKER_02

And it's already reaching out. And we are right now recording probably a month, a month and a half out of going into the home. And I know you had an experience. Did you want to share it?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, for sure. So I I decided I wanted to check out some videos of, you know, see who's been there, what what they've they've uncovered or or what they've experienced. And I was watching one with the new owners. They were they were doing some investigating and they were getting some crazy, crazy evidence. But at one point I started getting a headache. And I'm like, oh, my head's throbbing. And they were doing an EVP session, and what came through was throbbing headache. Right at the time where I I was like, my head hurts. And then it was like throbbing headache. And like it instantly like woke me up to like Mahay. So reaching out. Definitely felt there was a connection there of sorts, saying that, yeah, we know you're coming.

SPEAKER_02

Prepare yourself.

SPEAKER_01

And the headache went away. It didn't linger. It was just at that moment. I'm just like, oh, and then mentioning the headache and the throbbing headache, and I'm like, okay.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. We're ready. Again, six weeks out. So I think we really need to document everything going on prior to it entering the house. Like you, I'm doing a little bit of research, watching videos on Ed and Lorraine and videos on the cases they've studied, which we've shared in previous episodes because we're doing a little bit of a deep dive because I want to go in prepared. I don't want any surprises, although everything will be a surprise. And one night I was sitting on my couch in the dark. Why did I have to like turn off all the lights? I don't know. My dog was close by, and I was watching a video and they were talking about the Amnadeeville house, which was Lorraine's, I don't want to say her worst experience, but that one affected her quite a bit. Like that was very memorable to her, is what I'm going to say. And I'm sitting there getting more and more scared. The pillow becomes great to hide my eyes. And when I look down, and I know it was from the pillow, again, the pillow was closed, but there was a little white feather there. And I'm like, okay, because a really big message of what I was listening to also had to do with them being so devout and calling in God and the angels. And in that moment, I felt like you need to remember this for your own protection.

SPEAKER_01

That's wild.

SPEAKER_02

I know, I know.

SPEAKER_01

That's pretty cool. Yeah, well, I'll definitely be jotting down things because sometimes I forget, but gotta jot them down, the experiences that make you think, okay, this is definitely connected.

SPEAKER_02

Yes. And I'm so excited because today we are going to talk about the actual house because it's gone through a bit of transition lately. Uh Lorraine Warren, she passed away in 2019. And once she passed away, the occult museum was basically closed down because of zoning limitations. This house, this museum, because they're connected together by a hallway, I don't know, underground. I'll say that. I don't know. I haven't been there yet. And it was in a residential area. So people weren't happy about the looky loss the driving by, sure, and all the parking. But many years later, and I do believe it was in 2025, a comedian, Matt Reif and Elton Casty, I hope I saying his name right, because it deserves to be said right. He's amazing because I've been listening to interviews that he's done on this house and just the respect he has for it.

SPEAKER_01

That's the way I would say it too. Definitely. You know, he he spent years creating paranormal content on YouTube. The overnight, I believe, was his channel. So he visited haunted houses and locations across America, which is really cool. So he has had experiences with the paranormal. He wants to build like a paranormal experience, say like immersive. And I think that's what they're trying to do with this Warren House, and it's part of his journey. So it this is really kind of like come full circle for him, I feel like.

SPEAKER_02

It has. And I heard a little less about Matt Reif. I mean, I know he's a comedian, um, but I have learned that he's always had an interest in the paranormal and that, and I heard this from Elton in an interview, that the purchase of the house kind of came from the powers that be. Like the universe just kind of brought everything together in the right time and the right moment for them to make this purchase. He had been there years before, and he actually did five days in the house, 24-7, and it was like a marathon to raise money for, I believe, the food bank or something like that. It wasn't the food bank, but something along those lines. And so that was what he was going to do. He was going to spend five nights there and video everything, and he went in there and they started the live stream, and the internet went kaput. Oh wow, of course. Of course, why wouldn't it? And we've had this experience ourselves, but when it first started, five miles around where this was happening in Monroe, Connecticut, the internet went down or started acting wonky.

SPEAKER_01

Wow.

SPEAKER_02

Does that not take you back to Atcheson, Kansas?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, that's wild.

SPEAKER_02

And the fact that right before we went into the house, all the registers went down.

SPEAKER_01

Yes, that's pretty crazy. Oh wow, I forgot about that.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. So I was like, hmm, I believe it. This makes sense to me because I've experienced it myself.

SPEAKER_01

That's that's fun. Wow. Did not know that.

SPEAKER_02

Yes. Very cool. So in 2025, him and Matt Reif they purchased the Warren Estate, which is located in Monroe, Connecticut. And their goal for purchasing this house was to preserve the property and the Warren legacy. They didn't want to turn it into this haunted attraction. They wanted to respect and align with what the Warren's goals were, which I think is amazing.

SPEAKER_01

Yes, because the Warren spent a lifetime doing their work. So to honor that their life's work is amazing. And I had never heard of these two before. Like I'm just so excited for what they're doing.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

I am very excited too, but I didn't know what a Matt Reif was. I'm not someone who listens to comedians very often. I do have a sense of humor for everybody out there going, well, gosh, maybe she doesn't have a sense of humor. But that's just not typically what I watch. I watch true crime, I watch ghost hunting, and I watch Real Housewives. That's about all.

SPEAKER_01

Well, I know that my husband was sending me his TikTok videos, and I'm just like, who is this guy? Who is this guy? And I was like, he's kind of cute, but I didn't make the connection until I started researching all of this and looking at videos that it's the same guy. I'm like, wait, wait, that's the same comedian that I've been getting videos of. That's that's wild. Yeah, wild.

SPEAKER_02

And why would he want to have a haunted house? Because yes, it is still haunted. That was one thing Elton said several times in the many different interviews that I listened to. And as far as Matt Reif goes, like I again didn't follow him. I became more aware of him. And on Mother's Day of this year, or the day before Mother's Day, he actually was in Arizona performing and everyone was talking about it. And I'm like, I didn't even know who he was. Except he was a comedian that bought the Warren House, and that's what I kept saying. Well, did you know this interesting fact? He's into like the paranormal and he owns the Warren House.

SPEAKER_01

Oh wow. That's it's a very cool, very cool story.

SPEAKER_02

But when they bought the house, they did know that they had a problem because here they wanted to allow people to experience the Warren's legacy, to appreciate this historic building, to see all these artifacts, which there are at least 750 in the museum. But because of the zoning issue, how are they gonna do that? So they got together, started working on the issue, and they came up with the idea of turning it into an Airbnb and following every item they need to in order to qualify for that. They're not gonna fight the city, the state about this. They are a true Airbnb. And as so, there are a lot of restrictions put around booking a night at this home. Such as there can only be eight people. They need to know the names of the people who will be there before you arrive. They talk to you about outside times that are okay. And I was gonna say something else, but like there's just so much. I just think it's so cool how they they worked around this. And the only people whose names are on that night can be on property. Nobody else can come on property. You can't host parties or anything like that. When you arrive at the property, a host will meet you, in which you will sign a waiver for the house, but also a waiver for your own spiritual protection. Whoa. Yeah, I know, I know. Um, which I think is kind of cool. And then, you know, Airbnb hosts don't stay with you, so they leave. But later in the night, they open up the occult museum to the people staying on property. And there they will have a spiritual lifeguard with them or somebody to kind of make sure they're not touching anything, they're following the rules. So we will not be alone in the museum. Thank God. I need a rip court if I need to get out of there. I want someone to show me how I get out of there.

SPEAKER_01

I was actually wondering how they make sure no one's gonna open doll doors and touch things, and there's they've gotta have some strict rules there because I can imagine, you know, crazy stuff happening because people are crazy, but I'm glad they have somebody there watching and supervising and preserving.

SPEAKER_02

Yes, and they went about advertising this house in a very creative way. I mean, there's the hype around the two of them purchasing it. And then I just so happened to come across a video the day before they were releasing nights, but in October of 2025, they released the final nights that people will be able to stay in the home and access the museum. Now, you probably can still stay in the home, but the museum will be moved at the end of August. And in the moment, I was very excited. I reached out to you, to Carissa, some of the other people that I know have an interest in the paranormal and said, Do you think we can get eight people together? And and I got nervous about it, so I didn't do it and it sold out. But then I couldn't let it go. I kept checking back and I did get a night. And I'm so excited and I feel so lucky because I was kicking my butt when I let that go. I really was mad at myself that I didn't just take that jump of faith because I think it's gonna be a really cool experience.

SPEAKER_01

Once in a lifetime, like they're it's gonna be gone. And do you know where they're moving it?

SPEAKER_02

I know where they're temporarily moving it next, which is a really cool story. And it kind of again aligns with experiences that I've had, but they looked for another location for it because again, right now, eight people a night get to see it. Not many of the world get to be a part of the experience.

SPEAKER_01

That history, that huge history, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, so they looked at commercial properties in Connecticut and they kept getting the runaround or they would find a place and then it would fall apart. So they went to where any good haunted place would go. They will be opening at the end of August in Salem, Massachusetts.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, wow. Okay. Well, we're gonna have to visit that too, just because it's Salem.

SPEAKER_02

Just because. And it's really cool. I mean, I know they don't have all the specifics worked out yet, but they're gonna have three different experiences. Like people can go in and just walk around and tour, and then they're gonna have like a ghost hunting experience, which is a little longer. And then because Ed Warren was a demonologist, one they call the demonology experience or something along those lines. So different price points for everybody, depending on what they want to do and what they want to experience, which I think is so cool.

SPEAKER_01

That's very cool. Very cool.

SPEAKER_02

And they will be in that location until December 23rd at least, as they look for that final location. And maybe they know where they're going next. I didn't find that information and I have searched the internet.

SPEAKER_01

They might be keeping that under wraps for now.

SPEAKER_02

Under wraps for now. And I wanted to share one more thing because I thought this was really cool. And again, I heard this in an interview. Elton is the type of person who says, I'm never gonna put people in an experience that I'm not willing to sit through or have myself. And when he goes into the house, he does have experiences. And he said when they first bought the house or the first time he went to visit, he got a rundown on how they said to protect himself. And so he knew that. But then he also had to bring in his own ways of protecting himself. He said, one of the biggest things that he does when he's in that house is he holds on to his confidence that all the protections that have been there are going to work. So he approaches with confidence. You know, there's holy water there, there's the the light from the center core that you put around you, all of that. But he was talking about he was down in the basement or in the museum and he was cleaning out cupboards, and he came across only one hand-carved item. And that handcarved item was by Ed, and it said something like Salem Village on it.

SPEAKER_01

Oh.

SPEAKER_02

And he's like, okay, this is interesting. That is fast forward. He says he was going through the very last cupboard of things. There was one t-shirt in there, and he pulled it out, and it said something about when the Warrens were in Salem. So it was Salem related to. Oh wow. I got such full goosebumps because many times when I'm looking for my next adventure or where I'm going to be called, it starts revealing itself at the location before. Like I start getting signs around me or people start saying words and I have to be paying attention, but I get my answer. So when we're there, I'll get my answer where we need to go next.

SPEAKER_01

That's so wild. I wonder if it'll be Salem. Because we've always talked about going to Salem. So I'm in. Yeah. Totally. So one thing that I did find um, they're guardians of the museum, right? For five years.

SPEAKER_02

That's so important. They are guardians of all the artifacts. They own the physical building, but Ed and Lorraine Warren's daughter, Judy Sparra, and her husband Tony actually own the artifacts.

SPEAKER_01

So that was one of the things they kept mentioning in the video that I was watching, that that was very important. They wanted to make sure that they're not owners. They don't own all of the uh artifacts at their guardianship there for five years.

SPEAKER_02

Hopefully longer, he said.

SPEAKER_01

Hopefully longer if it all goes well. You never know.

SPEAKER_02

But you're gonna be moving Annabelle, and you know, she was on a tour not too long ago, and it seems like a little havoc broke out in whatever city she was in. Like when she was in New Orleans, there was a fire at a plantation and some prisoners escaped.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, that's right.

SPEAKER_02

Her handler unexpectedly passed away, but it was natural causes. They don't believe Annabelle actually caused any of that, but it happened. And I think there are a couple other locations, and I tried to do the research on it, uh, but I got tired and had to go to bed. So, but I know the plantation was a big one, and I think something happened in Texas that was a big one too. Wow. So they're gonna how do they move all that?

SPEAKER_01

Oh my gosh.

SPEAKER_02

I don't know. And I have seen YouTube videos or Instagram reels in which someone's driving with Annabelle and the boxes there, and the box is like shaking. Can you even imagine?

SPEAKER_01

No, no, no, but you know, there's a more deadly doll, is what they call.

SPEAKER_02

Can you tell me a little bit about that? Because I was researching and they were talking about the shadow doll, but I I don't know what that is.

SPEAKER_01

I don't know too much about it, but it it's in a case. It's in in the museum and when they were investigating, they were getting all kinds of really like negative and nasty kind of EVPs and all the thermoders were going off. And this one is really scary looking. Really scary looking. Like dark, weird. There's yeah. I I didn't want to even look at it. I'm like, nope, not looking. Not looking. But was it like a doll doll or it see it it was it looked like a voodoo doll type thing. Like it wasn't a raggedy and doll. It wasn't a porcelain doll. It was and and they didn't show it like completely face-on, but it was it was not very, it was not very nice. I could tell the energy around it was not nice.

SPEAKER_02

So that's fascinating. I remember when we were at the Begins Museum and Peggy being there, and they're like, don't directly look in her in the eyes. And they were even hesitant to show it on the series they had on the different haunted artifacts. I remember that. Yeah. And Annabelle, I mean, if you believe the stories that are out there, the movies that are out there, she's a doll doll, but she's a raggedy and doll. And I know I've shared this in a previous episode, but one of the things I find so interesting is they want people to have these experiences. So people have sent in raggedy and dolls around the world to live inside the museum. And then they're going to sell them. Oh, wow. Nope. Yeah. Not for me. That they're not they're not selling them to me. I'll go in and have the experience. I'll bring my full body in there, but I'm not taking it home with me.

SPEAKER_01

Bringing it home. No, thank you.

SPEAKER_02

No, thank you. So I I just found that really interesting because you know there are people who are gonna jump on that and be like, yeah, I I want that energy or that chance of that in my house, but I don't want that in my house.

SPEAKER_01

Don't need it in the house. No. I yeah, nope.

SPEAKER_02

When you told me that, nope, nope, nope and right out of that. Well, it's important just to share too that the new owners, because again, they're comedians and influencers, they really do have a heart for the the property. They have been drawn to historic locations and preserving them. And they just believe all of these artifacts are such an important part of paranormal history and the culture that has come from Ed Lorraine's work. Um when I was listening to him talk, he did emphasize that he wants this to be about education and learning how to protect your energy. And I thought it was really interesting because they were talking about the balance between good and evil. And when you go in there, you know you need to protect yourself. And part of the Warren's mission was hey, we know there's good, but there's evil out there too. So we need to focus on learning to balance everything and to protect ourselves in that. And so that was a huge message that was coming through.

SPEAKER_01

Yes, I love that that's so important in and just in everyday life, really, too.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. I don't like to think of the dark side, but I know it's out there and I know that when we go in that house, we're gonna be calling in our angels. Have you thought about how you're gonna protect yourself going into that home?

SPEAKER_01

No, I haven't. I know that we did a huge thing when we went in before the Velisca house, and I believe that really, really helped, really worked for us. So yeah, we'll think on that and see what what makes sense and what our intuition is telling us we need. Definitely calling angels for sure.

SPEAKER_02

Yes, and then calling in on Lorraine also and the devout side of her and the holy water and like the blessings. I mean, Ed, so many times you see him denouncing demons, and he was the only at his time, like everyday person to be a demonologist and to help out in exorcism. So I mean, that's pretty interesting. And I think we can learn a lot there on how to protect ourselves.

SPEAKER_01

For sure. And I believe I heard that sometimes Lorraine even comes through on PvPs.

SPEAKER_02

Yes, I heard that um her grandson, he does the Warren Foundation. I will get the exact name to you next time, but but he's made all these videos about his grandparents and the different experiences they had. And the way he explains her is like she was just an everyday grandma. Like she was loving and her family was everything. And he does stay in the house, and occasionally his grandma and his grandpa do visit him. So I think that would be cool to have that run in. Yes, that would be so cool. Very, I can't wait. Yeah, I can't wait either. And one more thing I want to say about this adventure that we're going on, which I think is really neat because we didn't find it in any of the other locations when we went to the Liska or the Sally House or to Tonopah, but they are going to provide us with our investigation tools. Yes. Like everything EMF readers, night goggles, cameras, everything that we need in order to have the experience that we're meant to have.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, that is really wonderful. Like you said, that wasn't provided. That's that's unheard of, I think, in a lot of places. So that's that's really cool. Yeah, very cool.

SPEAKER_02

I'm ready. I gotta start thinking about packing, but we can't do seances, which I would never do anyway, because that would freak me out. Yeah. And we're just there to have the experience. And we'll we'll share what we can share, but I know I would love to have you come back on after we go to the house and share your experience and our shared experience because of course we have slightly different viewpoints, we'll experience things slightly different. And I just can't wait.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, that's gonna be great. I have a question, a thought-provoking question that I wanted to ask. Oh, I'm sorry, or just leave it there. Okay. So imagine Ed and Lorraine were sitting at this table with us today. After everything you've learned since taking responsibility for their home and collections, what do you think they would want the world to understand that people still get wrong about them?

SPEAKER_02

That's a really good question.

SPEAKER_01

Because for sure, there was a lot of skepticism and a lot of a lot of stuff going on.

SPEAKER_02

A lot of skepticism, a lot of doubt, a lot of challenging. Um, you sent me a video to watch on them, and the person organizing the video said it gets murky. It gets a little bit tough telling the whole story because there's par parts of it, I don't know if they don't make sense, but how do they fit in?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. I thought that was interesting.

SPEAKER_02

I like that question. And I think I would just say you were pioneers. You started this and there were no handbooks and there was no equipment, and you started by drawing houses and having experiences. Well, they had experiences as children. They came together, then you know, they were both artists drawing houses and talking to people about this, and then your focus changed from ghosts to demons, and what was that all about? And what was the scariest thing? Although I think I know Lorraine's, but what would you want people to know about you? What is the one thing like you would want people to know?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, that's exactly yeah, it it's it's a crazy and wild and so fascinating story that they had. I think there's just yeah, I I believe they they probably went through a lot of a lot of hardship too with the beliefs that they had with a lot of people.

SPEAKER_02

So I agree with you. And you even hear the grandson talking about it going to school, how he got teased a little, or people harassed him a little bit about oh, your grandparents talk to ghosts or demons. And I mean, yeah, we have another hard time when there's not a lot of social media. Can you imagine him going to school now? Oh gosh, yeah. It probably would go from the kid people looked at as like, oh, that's kind of weird, to the one like he wanted to hear his stories.
