On this week's episode of Three Cups and a Dash of Spirituality, we are going to be talking about those internal things that can slow down our intuitive flow. Tune in as we cue the music. Hi everyone, welcome to another episode of Three Cups and a Dash of Spirituality. I am Michelle and I'm here today with Stacy. Hi, everybody. And Carissa. Hey there. Hello, hello, right?

SPEAKER_02

Uh-huh.

SPEAKER_03

Wow, I can already tell you're kind of spicy today, Carissa. I am spicy. I had a cup of coffee. Let's go. Let's get this thing done. Well, can we start the episode with gosh, what is it called? A synchronicity that I had a really cool synchronicity. Yes, please. Because, you know, I'm all about those. But the other day I was walking and I felt my grandma and actually a couple of my grandparents come in. And I'm like, okay, this is great, but show me a sign sometime during the day. So many hours later, I went to get my nails done, and I walked in to pick a color. And the color I picked was my grandma's nickname, which is Wildfire. She was spicy one too. And then I'm like, that's cool. That's a great synchronicity. Okay, I know you're with me. And then I went and sat down at the nail technician's table. And the color he had sitting there was a British lady, and my grandma was 100% British. So that's just a little way she reached out to me. I was open to seeing it. I saw it and it really made my day, my week a month. A little wink, a little, hey, I love you. Yeah, a little I'm here. You weren't imagining it.

SPEAKER_00

You guys have something you want to share? Well, I had a small one today, kind of. It was interesting because I was talking to a friend of mine. We have a weekend date where we FaceTime because she doesn't live local to me. So we pick a day on Saturday or Sunday that, you know, was best for the time, the timing for both of us. So we can sit and chat for, you know, a while. And today she said, Do you have enough energy to pull a few cards for me? And I was like, Yeah, sure. And those that that are like really close to me know that things have been a little chaotic for me. And I've been looking for change in in different areas of my life. And so I pulled a few cards for her. And I was like, all right, and I'm sitting there and I'm just shuffling my cards, and I actually have it sitting in front of me right now. You'll never guess the card that came out. Three caps. Three cups. Yeah, I wish that was cool. What is it? The death card. Oh, I should have known because of the transformation. Transformation. And it was straight, it was up and down. And I saw it and I just started laughing because the death card is also, as you guys know, my favorite card in the entire tarot deck. So it was just that reaffirmation for me, or that synchronicity of things are shifting, things are starting to shift. You're gonna see this change coming very, very, very soon. So that's my little synchronicity of the day. And it's just sitting in front of me as a reminder. Oh, I love that. Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

I almost drew a card before logging in for the session just to see what would come up. And I didn't do it because I was busy taking notes. That's what I do. Because as Stacy said, our lives have been completely chaotic, and it's kind of brought to the forefront a really great topic for us to discuss today, which is things that we do that slow our intuitive flow. Things everything. Yeah, everything that we do slows our intuitive flow in this human world. But we sat down and we we brainstormed and we talked a little bit, and I think this will be a fun episode.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Everything staunches your flow. So, you know, our chaotic lives, we don't always have control of things get super busy, but there are certain attributes or certain things that we throw in there. I don't know if attributes is certain blocks that we throw in there that are on an ego level. Sure. Yeah. You know, the rest of the world level, like comparison.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Comparison is a thief of joy. So how does that slow down or staunch our intuitive flow, Stacy?

SPEAKER_00

Well, I think I think when you step into comparing where you are on your, you know, intuitive journey to where anybody else is on their intuitive journey, you really immediately pull yourself out of whatever flow you are already in because you step into this kind of mindset of, well, why don't I, why can't I do the things that they can do? Why am I not able to see? Why can't I hear? What if what am I doing wrong? So you immediately step into this attitude of, I'm obviously failing because it's different. And this is not just with intuition, this is with life too. When we compare our journeys to anybody else's journeys, regardless of if they're where we want to be, they lived everything that they've gone through, everything that they've done is so different than what we have gone through and what we have done that we have to release the need to go, well, Carissa has XYZ, and I want that too. Give it to me, Carissa. Make it happen. Our lives are completely different. You know, it's and and that's and this is the beauty of intuition and intuitive flow is the way my abilities work is completely different from the way Carissa's abilities work. It's completely different than the way Michelle's abilities work. And it's what makes us stand out. So if I compared myself to where Carissa is or where Michelle is, I'm immediately sad because it's so different.

SPEAKER_03

And I do believe that when we compare ourselves to other people, we take away some of our personal power, some of our confidence, that core of who we are. We lose the ability to appreciate what we bring to the table because it doesn't seem like enough or it seems like it's failing or faulty. And that's not the case. It's just, as you said, it flows differently. And we need to learn to appreciate how that flows for us and not compare it to other people and how their intuition works. I do know that I've been taking a forensic class. It's actually really cool and intuitive forensic class. And it's hard for me to sit in the live class because I find myself comparing all the time and I know I'm doing it. I don't want to do it, and it takes something away from my soul when I do it because I just feel like bad. And I don't want to feel bad because I'm doing the best I can and I'm getting hits here where maybe they aren't, but all I can see is their victories and questioning myself. Do you find it takes away from the experience too? It does, yeah. That's why I choose to watch it in replay, but then that takes something away from the experience too. I'm missing out from everything coming up in the moment.

SPEAKER_02

I love to jump in and tie it all in and find a solution. So, what we're all talking about is attachment. And Buddhism talks about this. Whenever our ego is attached to something, what happens? We're we're stepping out of the present moment. And when we're in the intuitive flow, we are in the present moment. We're not in the future or the past. It's like time is irrelevant. So, listeners, and a reminder for myself, how do we get out of that comparison? Sit down and meditate, maybe. Go on a mindful walk. What do y'all do?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, no, I think to pull myself out of that would bring me a lot more joy. And I think those are great ways to do it. Take a walk, sit in meditation. Um, maybe sit with a gratitude journal, write down those things that you're grateful for, those things that make you you. And, you know, go back to like a book you have with all your experiences written down, just to show you that like you're in the flow too, and you don't have to compare yourself to other people because it's working just fine for you.

SPEAKER_02

And that ties back into what Stacy was saying about you get sad, and research shows there's literally research that shows people who are depressed or you want to say low vibe have a harder time trusting, tapping into the let's say tapping into their intro intuition and trusting it. I guess so.

SPEAKER_00

Gratitude raises your vibration. Yeah, gratitude is one of the easiest practices to uh to shift to shift mind frame, to shift mindsets to do all of the above. To answer your question, though, Carissa, me, what do I do in comparison? I I have an extremely insanely overactive imagination. Love that. Like my imagination is hilarious. You never get bored. Never. So if I start comparing myself to someone else, I come up with this absolutely outlandish scenario in my brain that makes it impossible for me to continue to compare them. Like initially it'll start and I'll be like, oh, I'm comparing myself to Michelle. And it'll be like, you know, comparing a different kind of apple to a different kind of apple or whatever. And then all of a sudden one of the apples is mutating into an avocado, and then I'm comparing an apple to an avocado, and it's just not possible. And then I'm like, okay, that's just not, it's not close enough. Now I'm comparing an onion into an like, like I just it it instinctively, like I immediately start to mutate everything like that because I have spent so many years practicing and stepping into this shift of mindset and not allowing myself to look at someone else's journey as my own because it takes away from me. It takes away from my experiences. And it's become so powerful to me that I even look back at myself, like I had a picture pop up, I think it was 2013, 2012, 2013, and I was like, holy cow, I don't even recognize me in this picture. I know I'm her, I know that she she was me, but I have come so far and the way my thought processes have changed, even like looking at comparison, it's so significant that it's hard to put myself in that space anymore because I want you to succeed just as much as I want myself to succeed. So comparing does not compute. Does that make sense? So the other mutation and all of those things kind of go into that.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, and that's it, and it's true. When I compare myself to someone, one thing that too that I that puts me back is I say, Am I not, am I not happy? And then I look around, I go, Oh, I am happy. I really am happy. That's an easy little trick, too. But yeah, that creative imagination is fun.

SPEAKER_03

Those are some great tips to help us work through comparison. Carissa, why would you take on the topic of expectations and how those can slow our flow?

SPEAKER_02

Who do you think you're supposed to be? What do you think you're supposed to be doing? But more importantly, why? Why?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, when I think of expectations, I think they just put a lot of pressure on what the outcome is supposed to look like. A couple of years I was uh a couple of years, a couple years ago I was planning a trip and my guides were pulling the strings behind the scenes, and I didn't recognize it at first. And then when I did, when I recognized that, oh, this is all coming together. This is an anniversary date. This is something they want me to tap into, it went from just planning a fun vacation to thinking, well, what's gonna happen? What's gonna happen on that vacation? Why are my guides orchestrating this? And as soon as I stepped into that, everything started to fall apart. My reservations for dinner on a significant date fell apart. It just completely changed the vibe because now instead of just stepping into it and letting the experience flow, I'm putting my own expectations on it and it changes everything downstream. It doesn't allow the situation to unfold naturally like it was supposed to. And I recognize this. And this was a wonderful lesson because once I released it and said, okay, I see what you guys are doing, I get the timeline, I'm just gonna go with it. You know, I'm I'm gonna be curious about it and I'm not gonna put pressure on it. And then it flowed into what it was supposed to be.

SPEAKER_00

Well, you open yourself up to all of the experiences rather than creating this box of what you want with your expectations. I I have this love-hate relationship with expectations. I think that they really do serve us, they serve us well whenever we're honest with ourselves, but they also hurt us at the same time. So in in life coaching sessions and and expectations come up, one of the things that I that I often talk about is are you being honest with yourself, with your expectations? Are you being honest with your spouse? Are you being honest with your friends? Because, you know, if I am texting someone, for example, and I need a response right away, I need to somehow allow them to understand that my expectation is I need an answer in the next 10 to 15 minutes. You know, if I'm texting my husband and I know that he's available, hey, I am at the store, I have 10 minutes, I need to know if you need X, Y, Z. He knows if he doesn't respond, he's not getting it. So there is that expectation that's set front and center. When it comes to spirituality and creating your flow for intuition and allowing it to be open, I think doing an expectation check-in is a beautiful thing. So you sit down to do an exercise of any sort and you step into the exercise and you're gung-ho for it. But before you do it, what's your expectation? Are you expecting to experience something so that if you don't, you feel like you fail, are you setting your expectations too high? Or are you just open to seeing what happens? If you're open to seeing what happens, you're more likely to have results.

SPEAKER_02

I've got something to piggyback on that. I have a lot of clients who will come in, they're young, right? And oh my God, I haven't found someone because I really want and I want a family, I'm gonna get it going. Okay, that's your expectation. Where did this expectation come from? Yes, I know we have a biological clock, so let's factor that in. We do have a biological clock that's unconscious. But what else? And time and time I have seen when they have slowed down, do their work, that person then eventually shows up, or they get really comfortable saying, I don't really want any kids. I kind of do love my career, you know? Whose expectation is this? Is this yours? Let's explore, or is it not?

SPEAKER_00

Then whose is it? And is the expectation coming from comparing yourself to other people who have done, you know, whatever you're hoping to do? Um, or are you creating your own path? Because you know what? Every single one of us is an individual. We're not the same for a reason.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, that tied back into comparison, expectation tied back into comparing. Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I just feel like expectation really just kind of chokes the flow out of you when you step into expecting an outcome. As Stacy said, you put pressure on a situation, and once that pressure is applied, it takes you out of the joy of experiencing or living the moment.

SPEAKER_00

Well, I think I think one of the things that that I'm kind of hearing from you, and correct me if I'm wrong, is that it goes all the way around. It's not just spirituality, it's it's life. You know, if we're setting expectations in any area, it's going to affect us the same way it does with intuition. If I sit down for a reading and I expect things to come through a certain way, it's probably not going to because Simon, my guide, is going to be like, nice try. We're going to make this challenging today now. Yeah, now now it's going to be a challenge.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, you're going to miss out on so much too if you expect how something's going to play out. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

And what fun is that? I think, I think we also kind of shoot ourselves in the foot sometimes with with setting those, you know, expectations or even comparing because we don't know how things are going to unfold for us. That the universe kind of allows, you know, that that room for not just growth, but it allows for these experiences that we're here for. So why would we take away from these experiences by setting an expectation with the universe? I want to experience things a certain way. That's cool. But what if it's better? What if it's better than your expectation?

SPEAKER_02

Let go of the attachment. Yeah. Step back in the intuitive flow.

SPEAKER_03

How about? And this probably goes with self-doubt also and expectations. You're just impatient with the progress you're making.

SPEAKER_00

You'll never get where you want to go.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, you'll never it'll never be good enough. That's that that's that core belief. I'm not good enough. I'm not good enough, which we all have. Everyone has that a little bit of, well, I'm not good enough.

SPEAKER_00

It's I want things when I want things when I want things. Yes. We when we put a timeline for ourselves, we will never, we'll we'll never succeed because our timelines are never going to be met unless it's completely in our control.

SPEAKER_03

Then we take our human timeline and what we're wanting there, and we put that with the universal timing. And the universe has a plan that's all it all its own. I know in my human life, when I put in the time, when I put in the effort, when I put in the work, I see the results I want to see. And for me, impatience comes in where it has to do with spirituality. When I put in the time, the work, I'm devoted, I'm doing my practices, and I don't feel like I'm getting the results that I should be getting. And that just slows the flow more for me.

SPEAKER_00

Well, and the shit thing is that time doesn't exist for the universe. So everything that you are putting out there, the work that you're doing, the end result is already done. It's already there. And the universe is like, well, it's it's here. You just have to get there on your timeline because time, you know, that the whole concept, and we're not going to get into it, that time concept is so us created that it's impossible for us to see what's actually coming. And you're you just like literally explained the entire situation that I've been walking through because I have been manifesting and working and and putting out there and doing everything that I need to do to make something happen in my life with zero return so far. But every time I turn a corner and I touch base with my guide, he's like, it's there. It's there. It's like like it's coming. It's around the corner, it's coming, it's coming. And I'm like, it's been three months, it's been three months. Like, I'm come on. And they're like, it's there, it's coming.

SPEAKER_02

Because to them it is. I told you with the pain I was dealing with that pain. And my guides were like, it's a blimp and it's a blimp. It's a blip in time. It's gonna be over before, and I'm like in extreme pain, but getting nothing else. Yeah. And and it really one year is a blimp.

SPEAKER_00

Yep. Yep. And it's what's what's even more entertaining about this is my guide keeps going, it's there, it's coming, it's there, it's coming, it's there, it's coming. And we get frustrated on the human end, but then my guide is not giving me any other information either. So it's almost like unless I'm reading for someone else, he's like, You don't need any more information until you're where we need you to be on path, but it's already there. So just wait for things to unfold. And then I step back and I'm like, you motherfucker.

SPEAKER_03

Like well, I love that you said that it's already all played out, and it makes me just think that maybe I should sit back with um a nice glass of champagne and some there you go. There was some champagne. There you go.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, champagne popcorn sounds yummy.

SPEAKER_00

But then that probably would change everything, but it already knows how it's gonna work out, so yeah, it's it's it's kind of an interesting concept if you really think about it, because we're here for certain experiences, certain very like we have the ability to choose our lives and live our lives. We still have that freedom of choice. Ultimately, those things that we want that we we manifest that we bring into our lives are coming. It's just a matter of how they unfold that kind of becomes the frustration, right?

SPEAKER_02

Yep, exactly.

SPEAKER_00

I want it now. Damn it.

SPEAKER_02

I want my boyfriend now.

SPEAKER_00

I want I want the love of my life right now. Yes, that's that's the most common one we hear. Most common one. I want new love. You know, you'll get it, and it's there waiting for you. But the more you focus on it, the longer it's gonna take to get there.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, release the expectation around it. Don't compare yourself to other people. I mean, you can tie it back to everything we've been talking about. I do have one or two more. Um, the next one I'd like to talk about when it comes to spirituality is self-doubt. How can that slow your intuitive up?

SPEAKER_02

Self-doubt's great. Well, one, it's low vibe, it's negativity. But then, I mean, I guess, you know, I'm a therapist, self-doubt. I would love to get quiet. I get quiet, check in with my body, right? Body's connected to the unconscious, which connected the intuition. What is this self-doubt about? What if that self-doubt you're not ready to go there? Like it's literally. Literally, it's just not time. And it's not really self-doubt. It is an intuitive intuitive piece. What if the self-doubt's connected to a younger part when you were younger? You know, sit down, explore it. You never know what may come up.

SPEAKER_00

So, Carissa, I just would like to do a side and say that when you began talking in immediately in my brain, I started singing the song, the headbone is connected to the like, and I was like just because you're like, this is connected to this is connected to this. And I'm like, Yay! I love your ADHD.

SPEAKER_01

But that's true. Yeah. Yeah. No, what is it connected to? And it's all connected, but what's it real? What's it connected to?

SPEAKER_00

What is under that self-doubt? What is making you step into doubt? You know, I I think we all have a little bit of vulnerability no matter where we are in our lives, too. Every single time I step into a reading, there is always this. Am I going to get a hit? Am I going to access the information? Is this going to unfold the way it's supposed to? And every single time I do the reading, it it turns out to be exactly what the person sitting in front of me needs or wants, or, you know, it it works out. But there's always that self-like, oof, what if today it doesn't work? What if today all of a sudden my intuition just is like, nope, you're done. It's true. But then you're you you then stepping step into it. What is causing that? And it could actually be the person in front of you.

SPEAKER_02

Yes. Could be the person you're about to read.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. They don't really want the information. If they don't want the information, it's not gonna come.

SPEAKER_03

I for me, self-doubt, it really does keep me small in my spiritual practices, or in the past, it has kept me small because my biggest fear was people thinking I was a phoneme. I've talked about this numerous times on the podcast. So instead of just embracing who I am and becoming comfortable with who I am, I would lean into self-doubt to keep me safe. It was keep me small, keep me safe, keep me within my comfort zone. But it is so true what you said, Carissa. We can really do a lot of shadow work there. We can dive deep and learn to work through those roadblocks that we've created for ourselves.

SPEAKER_00

Michelle, have you found that there has been a specific process for you that works better than others with self-doubt?

SPEAKER_03

I think just time and I think it kind of ebbs and flows. Sometimes I will step up in the morning fully embracing who I am, releasing the doubt, asking to release the doubt with my guides. And other times it's back and it's like I've got to climb that hill again, if that makes sense. So it usually is just meditating or taking a moment of being quiet or sitting with myself and talking to myself, like you've got this, you know what you're doing. Just release it. That's your ego talking. And that's the big one. I always say, that's your ego talking. Your spirit knows what it can do. The universe is asking you to do this right now. It's your ego that's keeping you small.

SPEAKER_00

And have either of you ever heard somebody go, but you're always so on, you always do so well. How can you doubt yourself? Because I know, like it's interesting. I, but Michelle, I've said it to you. You're always amazing. Every reading that you've ever done for me has been phenomenal and spot on. What I want to throw out there though, too, that's that's kind of coming up is self-doubt is hard because you know, like I look at you, Michelle, for example, and I look at you, Carissa, and I and I think you guys are both so solid. And I don't really think about, well, you you doubt yourself, but it's so personal. It's such a personal, personal exploration because I don't think we ever really share that, you know, our discomfort or that we are doubting where we are at all when we're we're sitting in front of somebody because we kind of just are, right?

SPEAKER_02

Yep.

SPEAKER_03

I'm doubting, I'm praying, I'm doing all those things I can't see mentally, just like everything is running through my head, and then it's gone, it's cleared, and I do what I'm supposed to do. But Stacy, you say things so elegantly, so beautifully, and they're so easy to understand that you should really be a teacher. That's my goal. I do want to be diligence. I'm just shouting it out to the universe, another way of manifesting your goal there.

SPEAKER_02

So to normalize the self-doubt, too, there is research showing that humans are typically harder on themselves than a complete stranger.

SPEAKER_03

That's so true. And when I think what you just said, when I think about that, that takes my mind immediately to the gift of grace. We are so quick to extend it to other people, but it's so hard to extend it to ourselves that I really every day put that in my faith talk. I will give grace to others, but I will give grace to myself also.

SPEAKER_02

I love that.

SPEAKER_00

We put ourselves, I think we put so much pressure on success, on those expectations. On where we should be, should be, should, and and I I say this to all of my uh life coaching clients. If you are shooting on yourself, you are basically shitting on yourself. So stop it. The second that, you know, that that word enters your brain, you need to take a moment and go, why am I doing this? Why am I shitting on myself? Because shitting on myself, you don't have there's not more than one of you. Because you're setting those expectations. And with those expectations, you're typically stepping back into comparisons and you are setting yourself up for that self-doubt, for that what if I can't? What if I can't? And one of the questions that I always ask is, what if you can't? Why? Like what what happens? And so if you if you immediately look at that worst case scenario, typically it's also not that bad. What if I fail? You fail and you start again.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, it reminds me of that saying, you know, if plan A doesn't work out, there's 25 other letters in the alphabet to and hello, that's what I was just thinking.

SPEAKER_02

You literally just read my head mind because I was like, there's so many paths you could be taking if that one doesn't work.

SPEAKER_00

I have a sign that I'm looking at. It says, in order to bloom, you must grow. Guess what? That's exactly what we're talking about.

SPEAKER_03

It is well, those are all roadblock. I can't even talk, those are all roadblocks we put in our own way, but there is another roadblock that we could talk about, and that is just having a busy, chaotic life. Oh, that's been awesome. My intuition opened up during COVID, and then everything dropped away. So I had time to work with it. But having a busy life now, sometimes all my practices take a back burner to everything else going on. And I'd like to hear what you have to say about that.

SPEAKER_02

I take time every morning, yes. And I've been crazy busy the last few weeks, crazy busy. I just take time for myself every morning. It's 10-minute meditation. Sometimes it's only five. I tap in to see if they want me to know anything. Sometimes it's nothing. It's literally a blank screen. And then I'll do a quick odd. I'm telling I'm saying like two to three minutes automatic writing. Anything checking in. And typically it's like full of love and encouragement, but sometimes there's a message in there, and that's good enough. I I get to, I'm at this place in my life, like, what's good enough? Because I can't do it. You know, the whole self-care shit. It's like it's gonna that self-care is gonna stress you out. We've talked about that. What's good enough for me during these times when I'm running around like a cat chasing its hell? And I would text to y'all the other day about the power of intention. How I woke up that morning to like something like time is on my side. I have all the time in the world. And that day, I'm not kidding, was the was so slow. So slow. Like we focus on what we get. What we focus on, we get that saying neurons that fire together wire together. If your intention is to slow down, even though you're really busy, it can slow down. It was wild. But did I did I remember to do it the next day? No. So you know what? So what?

SPEAKER_00

I'm also quite humanly busy, as most people are very aware that know me even a little bit. I am not a practitioner of daily things. I encourage people to do things daily because it's really healthy to take those, those time, that time daily to do certain things for you. I find that I fit it in where and when I can. Because if I put pressure on myself, for example, to meditate even for 10 minutes a day, I am going to immediately set myself up for failure because the first day that I can't do it, I'll be like, fuck it, I'm done. I'm out. And it's not because I failed to do it once, it's because I know I'm going to not be able to do it again. And that's how your brain works. Yeah. Because my, I mean, there are days in my weeks that that start I'm out of the house at at 0, 6:30 and I don't get home until seven. So during that driving meetings, driving meetings, during those days, that stopping is not happening because I'm bouncing from one thing to another. And, you know, trying to just keep my sanity. I don't stop to meditate because I can't add that in. Sometimes when our plates are too full, it's too much. So I do it when I can. You know, I only sat in meditation one day last week, and Simon was like, Yeah, I want you to do this, this, this, and this while you're here. And I'm like, okay, cool. So I practice the things that he asks me to do, but I also do not set myself up for failure.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I think that's awesome. Giving yourself grace in in the process and learning to make it work for you with your schedule.

SPEAKER_02

And she's acknowledging and honoring how her brain works. Or doesn't work. Or does it work? Yeah. And we go back to the so what? Let's do what's good enough for you.

SPEAKER_03

I agree. I think this might be a great place to end this episode so we can jump into our next episode, which I need your help. My world is chaotic, and I am struggling to step back into spirituality. So I think that's what we're gonna talk about next time. If that works for you, all right. Well, stay classy, stay sales, stay badassy until next time. Bye guy.
